Add text fields to a PDF
Put real, typeable text fields on top of any PDF so people can fill it in on screen instead of printing it.
Text field options
- Single-line or multiline (for comments and addresses)
- Default value and placeholder-free layout
- Maximum number of characters
- Left, center or right alignment; Helvetica, Times or Courier
- Required and read-only flags
- Special fields for email, phone and dates
Tips
Give every field a clear name — PDF readers use it when exporting form data, and screen readers announce the label. Make multiline fields tall enough for the answer you expect; text is clipped, not resized.
Frequently asked questions
Will the text field auto-shrink long answers?
No. The font size you choose is fixed so the form stays consistent. Make the field wide enough, or switch on Multiline.
